The law protects the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist, and information cannot be disclosed without written permission. I make every reasonable effort to protect the privacy and confidentiality of my clients, including providing an office with a separate entrance and exit. However, there are some exceptions where confidentiality can and will be breached.
These Exceptions include:
- Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse, for which I am required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
- If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s, I must notify the police and inform the intended victim.
- If a client intends to harm himself/herself/themselves, I will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in ensuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, I will take further measures without their permission that are required by law in order to ensure their safety.
Cancellation & No Show Policy
It is expected that clients will cancel with at least 24 hours notice prior to the beginning of a scheduled appointment. This is to ensure that I am able to fill the hour with other individuals/couples in need of an appointment. Exceptions to this would be in the case of illness, injury, emergency or other factors outside of your control. If an appointment is not cancelled with appropriate notice, it is required that the full fee for the missed session be paid.
Waiting Room Policy
While I do not see individuals under 18 years of age in therapy, I understand that some clients may have children or be responsible for the care of minors. Please make arrangements for childcare prior to your appointment. Individuals under 18 years of age are not permitted without adult supervision in the waiting room area. For safety reasons there are no exceptions to this policy. Children are also not permitted in the therapy room during sessions (with the exception of infants < 1 year of age). If childcare arrangements can not be made within 24 hours of your appointment, please reschedule.
Social Media Policy
In order to maintain your privacy and confidentiality, as well as the boundaries of our therapeutic relationship, I do not accept friend requests from current or former clients. I recommend that clients exercise extreme caution when following or commenting on any of my social media pages, as I can not protect your privacy which may be compromised should you choose to follow/comment/share etc. any of my content. The APA Ethics Code, Principle 5.05 states that it is unethical for psychologists to solicit testimonials from their clients. Please know that any pages, listings, posts or other social media related endeavors are NOT a request for a rating, testimonial or endorsement of any kind from you as my client (this includes business review sites such as Yelp etc. as many of these sites add businesses without the request or consent of the business owner).
I do not utilize social media as means of communication with former, current or potential clients. I also do not reply to comments or posts in public forums. If you need to contact me between sessions, please contact me via my provided phone number or email.
I do not accommodate walk-in appointments at this time. Please call, email or request an appointment in advance.
If you have any questions or concerns at any time about any of my policies, please do not hesitate to contact me as I am happy to discuss!
